About Us
About Us
We believe our role as an independent advocate for the line is particularly important
We fulfil this role by developing positive and at times challenging working relationships with all key stakeholders in the line, the way it’s used and how it supports the communities it serves.
- Industry Partners – Network Rail (owner of the infrastructure), Great Western Railway (operator of the train services) and Govt’s Department for Transport
- Local Councils – North Devon, Torridge, Mid and West Devon, Exmoor National Park, Exeter City Council and Devon County Council
- Peninsula Sub National Transport Body
- Devon & Cornwall Community Rail Partnership
- Residents and Businesses along the route, including existing and future rail users
- Northern Devon Rail Development Alliance – Supporting and reconnecting communities across North Devon such as Bideford
- Travel Watch South-West – an independent group that supports rail users across the South West
- Local MP’s – North Devon, Torridge, Mid and West Devon and Exeter
The result of these partnerships has seen a transformation of the services since the 1990’s when just seven trains a day was increased to hourly, to today’
The ongoing demand for rail transport throughout the South West means that we have to continue to push forward our vision for the future of the railway with more trains, reduced journey times, easy access to local stations, suitable car parking, bus services, improved connectivity at Exeter St Davids with the UK network and making sure the railway serves the communities and businesses that benefit from a frequent and reliable service.
If you would like to be part of the rail vision for the North Devon (Tarka) line, there are several ways you can reach these aims through one or several of the following:
- Become a committee member of NDLRPG – representing your community.
- Joining the NDLRPG as a member – either individually or as a parish council or business.
- Adopting or supporting your local station from tending the gardens to informing the local community.
- Capacity on trains, seats and length of trains
- Access to the railway by bus, walking or cycling
- Provide adequate parking spaces at our rural stations
- Connections with the rest of the UK via Exeter
- More frequent services along the line and calling patterns at intermediate stations
